Check it out Sukhumvit Road by Knopferl.
Sukhumvit Road is one of Bangkok’s best known and eclectic shopping streets. Easily accessible thanks to the Skytrain, its air-conditioned malls, department stores, myriad shops and sidewalk vendors offer an overwhelming variety of goods that ranges from cheap imitation tat to the latest fashion trends. Sukhumvit road actually stretches, I understand for 10’s of kilometers, starting in Bangkok, going all the way East outside of the city. We mostly will concern ourselves with the initial section between its start at Soi 1, up to soi 23. Sukhumvit Road in it’s entirety is several entertainment zones, and most certainly these areas are where visitors and expats spend the most money in Bangkok. Sukhumvit Road can be overwhelming at first, as it´s all lights, colors, people, and merchandise. It´s crowded, there´s no getting around that. Sukhumvit Road is another very interesting area in Bangkok – its an area known to be fairly “posh” and is home to a lot of ex-pats, as well as the “The Westin -Bangkok”. No, unfortunately, we did not take up residence at the Westin, but rather a cheap alternative behind it known as SV Guesthouse (didn´t even have hot water). Soi 12 is occupied mainly by Indian expatriates. Soi 3/1 is a side road as I understand a side road to be. It´s narrow, often busy and always cluttered. Soi 22 is an increasingly busy nightspot area, with a frowing number of bar and restaurants picking up a steady strem of business from the 1,000-room Imperial Queen’s Park Hotel. Among those that thrive from this traffic is Larry’s Dive Bar, which offers pool, good dining and friendly atmosphere.
